The Immigration Section of the Australian High Commission receives citizenship and visa applications for people intending to travel to Australia. Travellers of all nationalities except Australia and New Zealand need visas to travel to Australia.

Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans announced on 1 April 2009 a number of reforms to the Subclass 457-Business (Long Stay) visa that will be introduced over the coming months. The first of these will be an increase in the existing minimum language requirement from 4.5 IELTS (International English Language Testing System) to 5 IELTS for 457 visa applicants in trade occupations
